Chez, 22, Brit in Berlin

PicMonkey CollageaboutAfter graduating university in the UK, I moved to Salzburg, Austria in 2013 to work as an au pair, and eventually in a hotel and an Irish bar. Since September 2014 I’ve been living in Berlin and working in digital marketing.

I speak German and have managed to cover a lot of European ground recently (15 countries in 2013!) so here I am writing about what I’ve seen and learned, and what I hope to see and learn in the future!

  1. Hi, would it be possible for you to share your couchsurfing friend’s name and contact info in Zurich? I have never couchsurfed and bit nervous about being with complete strangers.

I’m heading to Paris and then going to Basel from Strasbourg in july. This trip is becoming too expensive and I am thinking to try and save a little since Zurich is outrageously pricy. I will be in Switzerland 5 days approximately.I would have loved to stay longer , but don’t have any more days left so I’m saving it for my next trip.

    Thank you very much

    • Hi, thanks for reading.

I don’t think it’s in the nature of Couchsurfing to hand out people’s contact details, nor do I think that Couchsurfing is something you should do purely as a money-saver.

All I would say is, trust the references that other people leave – if you find someone who accepts you, you could always message one of their previous surfers for more information. Make sure the requests you send out are personal, use their name and reference things from their profile. It’s all about trust, and if at any time you don’t feel comfortable, you can just leave 🙂

Definitely give it a go though, and enjoy Zurich – it’s beautiful!
